Nagarkot Hiking
Nagarkot is a village situated atop a hill, just 32 kilometers northeast of Kathmandu. Due to its proximity to the country’s capital, it is probably the best place to spend a night or two, without having to spare much time on travel.
At an elevation of 2195 meters, Nagarkot is mostly famous for the panoramic views of majestic mountains including five of the world’s ten highest peaks viz. Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu and Manaslu. Many other mountains from Dhaulagiri in the west to Kanchenjunga in the east are visible, provided that the weather remains clear. It is also renowned as one of the best spots in Nepal to enjoy the heavenly views of sunrise and sunset. A bird’s-eye view of the Kathmandu Valley comes as a bonus when you enjoy the beautiful majestic mountains from the view tower at 2200 meters. Nagarkot is a popular destination even for internal tourists, who come here for a day’s retreat from the busy life of Kathmandu.
The hill station of Nagarkot is surrounded by dense pine trees offering a pleasant experience of nature walk along with sweet chirps of birds. Many hiking routes are available that touch Nagarkot in some way or another as they pass through rural settlements, revered temples, dense forests, rolling hills and deep valleys. Below, you can find a detailed itinerary for a hiking trip to Nagarkot carefully designed for the utmost experience over a short period of time.
Day 1: All Trekking in Nepal representative will pick you up at the airport or elsewhere within Kathmandu and bring you to the hotel. A short briefing about the whole program will be done. You’ll take a rest at the hotel. Day 2: We will get ready for the hiking. Meanwhile, we will visit famous historical sites of Kathmandu, most of which are listed under UNESCO world heritage sites. This includes Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Temple, Pashupatinath Temple and Boudhanath Stupa. You’ll stay at the hotel in Kathmandu for the night. Day 3: In the morning, we will have a short drive to Sundarijal from where the hiking will start. Passing through Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve, we will head towards Chisapani (2150m). The hiking takes about 5 hours. We will move through oak forests, and during the spring you can enjoy beautiful rhododendron flowers all over the forest. Mulkharka, a settlement of Tamangs comes across this route. We’ll stay in a guesthouse at Chisapani. Day 4: We start a 5 hour trek to Nagarkot passing through Chauki Bhanjyang. Scenic terrains and lush pine forest accompany you throughout the hiking. We’ll reach Nagarkot to enjoy the beautiful sunset view from 2200 meters above sea level. Nagarkot is considered the best spot for sunrise and sunset view around Kathmandu. The overnight stay will be at a hotel in Nagarkot. Day 5: Sunrise view from Nagarkot is even more spectacular that no visitor can afford to visit. Panoramic view of the Himalayas to the north and the beautiful Kathmandu valley to the southwest along with scenic terrains all around, Nagarkot tower gives you the unparalleled experience of sight-seeing. After having breakfast, we drive back to Kathmandu and on the way, we visit Bhaktapur Durbar square, a site with immense archaeological significance. You’ll take you to a hotel in Kathmandu, where you’ll stay overnight. Day 6: Finally, the time comes to bid you farewell with a heavy heart but lots of memories to cherish forever and in a hope that we’ll meet someday again. We drop you to the airport. |
