Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu
You’ll be warmly welcomed by our airport representative and then you will be transferred to hotel. Then in a group meeting, you will be explained briefly about the program upon arrival. A suitable hotel will be accommodated for your settlement.
Day 02: Obtain Chinese Visa and Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing Tour
In the capital city Kathmandu, you may visit around the famous world heritage sites Pashupatinath Temple, Kathmandu Durbar square, Swayambhunath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa & Budhanilkantha. We shall also be working on visa processing for our further excursion. Tonight, you’ll be staying at the hotel.
Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa (3660 meters)
In the early morning, you’ll be transferred to the international airport. From there we’ll have an hour long flight to Lhasa. This stunning flight will take us right across the main Himalayan range and we’ll be able to have magnificent mountain views. As soon as we land at Gonggar Airport, we’ll be meeting our Tibetan guide. With his reference, we’ll drive for couple of hours to reach Lhasa. We’ll find a suitable hotel to spend the night in Lhasa.
Day 04: Sightseeing Tour in Lhasa
We’ll be enjoying the day by visiting various monasteries in Lhasa, one of which includes Sera Monastery. It is the best-preserved monastery in Tibet. Within its whitewashed walls and golden roofs, several hundred monks live and study. After having our lunch, we'll visit Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama. We will also visit the Jokhang Temple. The night will be spent at the hotel.
Day 05: Sightseeing in Lhasa continues
In the morning, we’ll be visiting the famous Potala Palace which has been the attraction of the entire city of Lhasa since many years. It is a spectacular building containing many important chapels. We’ll then be visiting the popular monastery- Drepung Monastery, which was once the largest in the world, with a population of around 10,000 monks. These are the Tibetan architectural models referring the cultural, historical and religious background of Tibetan society.We’ll stay at the hotel during the night.
Day 06: Lhasa to Gyantse (3950 meters) - 261 k.m.
Throughout the drive we’ll follow the Friendship Highway. While we cross the Khamba La (4794 m) we’ll be enjoying the stunning views across the waters of Yamdrok-tso Lake to the snowy summit of Nazin Kang Sa (7252 m). On our journey to western side we’ll come over a high pass; the Karo La (5045 m) where we can view the amazing sight of a huge glacier tumbling down to the road. Within few hours we’ll reach Gyantse. For today’s night, we’ll be staying in a guesthouse.
Day 07: Shigatse ( 3900m) - 90 k.m.
On this day we are going to visit the Gyantse Dzong, the famed Gyantse Kumbum. It is the largest stupa in all of Tibet.The stupa is packed with Tibetan sculptures and paintings. After the visits, we’ll be continuing our trip to Shigatse which is the second largest city in Tibet. It is only about a 90 km drive to Shigatse.The city provides us an excellent opportunity for both relaxation and exploration. So we’ll be exploring the local market and then we will make a detailed visit to the Tashilhunpo Monastery which is one of the largest functioning monasteries in Tibet. We’ll arrange a hotel for the accommodation.
Day 08: Shegar (New Tingri) (4050 meters) - 244 k.m.
The journey to Shegar from Shigatse takes us six to seven hours of drive. During the drive, we’ll be enjoying the overland journey through the views of the deserted plateau. As we travel along the Friendship Highway, we’ll see the most spectacular landscape in Tibet. We will be crossing the small town of Lhatse and Gyamtso La (5220 m), the highest pass on our journey. In Shegar we’ll stay in one of the hotels for the night.
Day 09: Drive to Rongbuk (5000 meters) - 68 K.m
Here we’ll be leaving the Friendship Highway and head southwards to Everest Base Camp. We’ll pass over the Pang La (5150m) towards the main Himalayan range. After crossing the pass, we’ll enter into the Rongbuk Valley. Now we can enjoy the spectacular views of Mt Everest, Cho Oyu and Makalu. For today’s night we’ll stay at a hotel.
Day 10 & 11: Trek to Base Camp & Acclimatization
We’ll have two days at the base camp. It is important to acclimatize as we’d just have crossed the 5000 meters mark. This is the sufficient time for adjustment of our body to the surrounding and to the the lack of oxygen at this altitude. We will still be using this time to explore around. We’ll set up a tented camp for accommodation.
Day 12: Trek from Everest Base Camp to Camp 1 (5460m)
We’ll trek along the Rongbuk Glacier which is an impressive frozen glacier of ice waves.We’ll have to trek for two and half hours or more to reach Camp I . Camp I lies under huge yellow-orange granite cliffs( yellow rock). After arriving at Camp I, we’ll be exploring the amazing view of Pumori Himalaya and snout of the East Rongbuk Glacier. We’ll be spending the night on the camp.
Day 13: Trek to Interim Camp (5760m)
We’ll be moving on to the next camp that lies across Far East Rongbuk glacier. Here we’ll be able to enjoy the huge ice pinnacles. Interim Camp is very beneficial for further acclimatization before trekking up to Camp II. Overnight we’ll spend at the camp.
Day 14: Rest day at Interim Camp (5760m
We have allocated this day as a rest day so that we’ll be able to prepare well for climbing higher. We may also explore the beauty of the nature surrounding us including the gorgeous glacier, higher summits, peaks covered with snow and so on. We’ll spend the night in the tented camp.
Day 15: Trek to Camp II (5970m)
From Interim camp we’ll be ascending to Camp II which may take about three and half hours or more. When we get to Camp II at 5970 meters we’ll encounter Changtse Glacier junction lying below huge cliff. It’s a beautiful location where we can see small and large glaciers spilling into the valley and endless array of mountain scenery. Tonight we’ll be staying in the tented camp.
Day 16: Trek to Advanced Base Camp (6340m) and return to Camp II
We’ll trek along moraine and following the glacier to the right, we will be marching towards Advanced Base Camp. Besides glacier, we can see group of flattened gravel mounds and we’ll be able to see spectacular sight of striated rock summit of Everest through binocular. This is perhaps the closest view of Mt Everest, a non-climber can get.There are also the Pinnacles to the southeast little more than 2400m higher than Camp III. In case all of us are fully acclimatized we may also trek along this trail for one hour. Finally, we’ll conclude by journeying back to Camp II from ABC for at least 2 hours. Overnight we’ll be spending at tented camp.
Day 17: Return to Base Camp
Now we’ll be returning back so we’ll be continuing our trek from back to the Base Camp. This will be a long day trek from the Camp II down to comfortable lower altitude on the Base Camp. This night we’ll be spending at the tented Camp.
Day 18: Trek to Rongbuk and Drive to Nyalam (215 km)
215 km drive would take us to Nyalam along Friendship Highway from Rongbuk. On the way, we’ll be able to see the stunning view of Everest, Cho Oyu and other mountain peaks. This will be followed by the rewarding views of Shishapangma, Menlungtse and Gauri Shankar, as you leave behind arid Tibetan Plateau. The route then progresses towards the town of Nyalam where everything starts appearing lush and green. Now we’ll be able to find a suitable accommodation at a hotel.
Day 19: Drive Nyalam (3750m) to Kathmandu
Today we’ll be moving away from Nyalam and an hour of drive will take us to the lush and green vegetation of Zhangmu at 2300 meters. We’ll be driving along Bhote Koshi River to Immigration Control in Kodari where we’ll have to say goodbye to our Tibetan guide. Then we’ll be making a quick return to Kathmandu that will take 5 hours of drive spanning 123 km. Today we’ll be accommodated to one of the hotels in Kathmandu.
Day 20: Free day in Kathmandu.
We have a leisure day in Kathmandu. On this day you can develop the photos taken along the journey, buy some stuffs for you and your relatives or just roam around the city. This will be the last day in Nepal or you can visit some other places or have some other exciting tours if you want.
Day 21: Transfer to Airport for home departure.
You’ll be transferred to Tribhuwan International Airport for onward destination. We’ll be sharing best wishes and goodbyes. |
