Lhasa EBC Kailash Trekking
This trekking is one of the most exciting and adventurous tour packages as it includes the trekking of Lhasa Everest Base Camp that offers you the view of world’s highest peaks including Mt Everest (8848m). In addition to that, you’ll be exploring the historical city, Lhasa - “The Land of Gods” as well as the holy Mt Kailash and lake Mansarovar. The Mt Kailash has a dual religious significance. For Hindus the mountain represents the seat of Lord Shiva and for Buddhists it’s a terrestrial projection of cosmic mandala for Dhyani-Buddhas. The four great rivers of Indian sub continent originate from this ritual mountain which are Karnali (feeding into the Ganges in south), Indus (north), Sutlej (west) and Brahmaputra (east). Overall breathtaking views of snowcapped mountains with spiritual and geographical importance and the land of myth and mystery will definitely provide you an unforgettable lifetime experience.
Day 01: When you arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport at Kathmandu we’ll be there to welcome you with greetings.Then you’ll be transferred to one of the renowned hotels of the city. You’ll be spending the night at the hotel.
Day 02: Today we’ll have a pre-departure meeting in which we’ll plan for the upcoming journey, the obstacles we might have to face and the full description of the journey will be provided to you and the Tibetan Visa proceedings will be undertaken. Overnight stay will be at the hotel.
Day 03: Today we’ll step on to the journey from Kathmandu to Lhasa. We’ll fly from Kathmandu to Gongkar Airport where a Tibetan guide will welcome you. He’ll be guiding you throughout the journey and will help you make the tour a big success. After necessary interaction with the guide we will drive for an hour from the airport to Lhasa (Land of Gods). Then for the night we shall stay at one of the hotels in Lhasa.
Day 04: Lhasa, a very popular site, is one of the highest cities in the world. Lhasa being an important site of our tour, we have allocated two days for sightseeing in the city. First day we’ll be visiting the famous Norbulingka, Sera Monastery,Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Market. Norbulingka is the largest garden of the country which is also considered “Treasure Park” of Tibet. Likewise, all of the other sites that we are visiting have their own importance and significance in Tibetan society. This tour will take about 6-7 hours. After completing the sightseeing we will return back to the hotel for night stay.
Day 05: On this day, we‘ll be visiting the highest ancient palace in the world, Potala Palace, reaching 3,767m (12,359ft). Then we’ll be moving on to Drepung Monastery.These two are the models of Tibetan architecture referring the cultural and traditional values of Tibetan society. Today’s visit will also not exceed more than 6-7 hours so rest of the time you can spend roaming other places or you may return to the hotel for taking rest.
Day 06: Today we will be driving from Lhasa to Gyantse( 3,950m).The journey from Lhasa to Gyantse is of 260 km that takes 6 hours of drive. The drive to the Tibetan town of Gyantse is made through Southern Friendship Highway. Eventually we will be staying at a hotel for the night.
Day 07: After having our breakfast at the hotel we’ll be continuing our journey. We will first visit the Pelkor Chode Monastery and Kumbum Stupa and then drive to Shigatse, which is the second largest city of Tibet. Three hours of drive along 90 km long road will take us from Gyantse to Shigatse (3900m). There we’ll find a hotel to spend the night.
Day 08: Drive from Shigatse to Xegar (4,050m) which is 250 km apart will take about six to seven hours. Xegar (New Tingri) is the centre of this large and remote country and also a base from where expedition to various peaks are made. A hotel will be arranged for accommodation.
Day 09: In a vehicle it takes about 3-4 hours from Xegar to Rongbuk Monastery (4,980m) which is the highest monastery in the world. After 6 km drive from Xegar, we leave the Friendship Highway and head out towards Everest Base Camp. We’ll be driving over Pang La (5,120m) to enjoy the spectacular views of Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, and Makalu. Overnight stay will be at a hotel.
Day 10: In the early morning, we hike for an hour to the base camp so that we can enjoy the unobstructed views of beautiful mountains from the base to the top. Today we’ll be travelling from Rongbuk Monastery to Tingri (4390m) which takes about five hours. The distance covered will be 145 kilometers. The night will be spent in a hotel.
Day 11: In order to reach Saga (3,700m) from Tingri which is 216 km away, today we’ll be driving for six hours along the Friendship Highway. Just before we reach Lalung La, the road bifurcates and we’ll be moving right towards Saga. On the way, we pass through Peiku Tso, a beautiful highland lake. We’ll be spending the night at a hotel.
Day 12: 8 hours in a vehicle will take us from Saga to Paryang (4750m). The distance is of 250km and it will take 8 hours. Paryang is a small village in Tibet Autonomous region. Being a remote area we’ll have to tent a camp for accommodation.
Day 13: We’ll be heading towards one of the famous lakes - Lake Manasarovar (4560m). To reach there we’ll need to drive 260km which will take about 8 hours. Along the Friendship Highway towards the lake, we will be crossing several rivers and the highest pass on our way the Mayum La Pass (4600 m). Some of the bridges are under construction and the scenery with panoramic views of the Himalayas is stunning. This night also, we will be staying in the tented camp.
Day 14: In the early morning, we’ll be exploring the shores of the beautiful Lake Manasarovar and then visit Chiu Gompa for a sulfur hot spring bath if needed. Within an hour we’ll be reaching Darchen (4560m) which is just 30 km away from the Manasarovar lake. We shall spend the night at the tented camp.
Day 15: An hour’s drive will take us to Dirapuk(4765m). We’ll be driving through Tarboch Flag Pole to the starting point of Kailash round (Parikrama). Western face of Holy Mt. Kailash with different changing color at the time of sunset and sunrise is what you would greatly enjoy watching.The view is just superb and you’d just love it. This night we will be staying in a tented camp or a guest house.
Day 16: It will take about eight to nine hours to reach Zuthulu puk(5610m) which means “miracle cave”. Trek to Zuthul Puk leads to one of the highest points at Dromala Pass (5200m). So this day is probably the hardest day of the trek but it is very rewarding. We’ll be moving through Dromala Pass and on the way we’ll enjoy different faces of Kailash Mountain which will add lots of adventure in our journey. We’ll stay in a camp for this night.
Day 17: From Zuthulu Puk we’ll move on to Darchen. After finishing the overall round of Kailash (parikrama), we’ll be heading for Mansarovar (Hor Chu, 4560m) which takes four hours of trek and a two-hour drive. We’ll spend the night again in a tented camp.
Day 18: On this day, we need to move from Mansarovar to Parang(4500m) and for that we’ll have drive of about 6-7 hours. Now we are coming nearer to the end of the expedition so for the coming days we’ll be driving back towards Kathmandu. Today we’ll have a hotel or a guesthouse for the accommodation.
Day 19: Within 7 to 8 hours we’ll reach Saga (4580m) from Parang. For the overnight, we’ll stay at a hotel or guesthouse.
Day 20: Driving from Saga, we will reach Nyalam (3700m) in 6-7 hours. We’ll be resting at a hotel or guesthouse for the night.
Day 21: Today we’ll head towards Kathmandu through Kodari. As we will be crossing the border, we need to finish some immigration formalities at China side then we will collect Nepal visa from Nepal Immigration Office and then drive to Kathmandu. It will take about 7 hours. As soon as we reach Kathmandu you’ll be transferred to a hotel where you can take rest and stay for the night.
Day 22: This will be a Leisure day in Kathmandu. Today you may develop the photos of the trek we had, buy some stuffs for takeover or just roam around the city to visit some other famous places in Nepal. This will be the last day in Nepal but if you wish you can make some other exciting tours.
Day 23: This is the day of departure. You’ll be transferred to Tribhuwan International Airport for onward destination. We’ll be sharing best wishes and goodbyes.
