Bandipur Hiking
Bandipur is a village standing on a ridge at an altitude of 1030 meters in Tanahun District. Bandipur is just 8 km away from Dumre which in turn lies on Prithvi Highway, between Kathmandu (130 km east) and Pokhara (70 km west). Because of easy road access and chief natural and cultural significance, Bandipur has become one of the most sought after destinations for tourists, both external and internal.
Historically, Bandipur had been an important point between India-Tibet trade route for Newars of Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. This brought an influx of Newari traders and gave rise to a unique mixture of culture with indigenous Magar communities. This blend of two different cultures greatly influenced the lifestyle of the people, festivals observed and architecture of houses and temples in this village. While several other communities in the country were defaced by modernization in recent times, this village remained relatively isolated as it was untouched by the nearest highway.
Bandipur is well suited for hiking because the whole village can be travelled in a single walk. There is a temple, a cave and several resorts. Gurunche Dada, a small hill is also suitable for a short hike.
