Day 04: Beni to Babiachor
We are commencing our trek on this day. Starting from Beni, we’ll trek to Babiachor located at an altitude of 950 meters. That will be a vertical gain of only 100 meters in 5 hours, just enough to warm up before escalating much greater distance in the coming days. You’ll stay overnight in a tented camp.
Day 05: Babiachor - Dharapani
From Babiachor, we continue our trek further to reach Dharapani. Dharapani is a small village at an altitude of 1400 meters. It will take us around 6 hours to reach the village passing through forests and beautiful landscapes. A tented camp will be set up for your night stay.
Day 06: Dharapani to Muri
We move forwards from Dharapani along stone-stepped path towards Muri. Muri is a beautiful village standing against the backdrop of great mountains. We come along some ascents and descents, rice fields and a suspension bridge before we finally reach the village of Muri at an altitude of about 1850 meters. It will be a 5-hour trek. Overnight stay will be in a tented camp.
Day 07: Muri to Boghara
This day’s trek starts with a descent through rice fields until we cross a river and then a series of ascents and descents. Along the 6-hour long route, you will pass through dense forests, rice fields and small villages. A sharp ascent at the end takes us to Boghara (2080 meters). Tented camp will be set up for your overnight stay.
Day 08: Bodhara to Dobang
Once again, the trail goes through the rice fields as you continue your journey descending towards Dobang. Afterwards, the route passes almost entirely through dense forests as we trek uphill. It will take about five hours to reach Dobang (2,520 meters), today’s resting point. A tented camp will be made ready for your overnight stay.
Day 09: Dobang to Choriban Khola
As soon as you move ahead from Dobang, you’ll come across a bridge. After crossing it, the trail passes entirely through forest. 5 hours of walk takes us to Choriban Khola (3,110 meters) where we set up our tents.
Day 10: Choribam Khola to Italian Base Camp
Moving ahead from Choriban, we pass through forest for a while and then continue moving upwards on steep hills. Today’s trek will run uphill and we come across bamboo forests before crossing another river. Shortly after, we reach Italian Base Camp (3660 meters) where we will stay for the night in tented camps.
Day 11: A day at Italian Base Camp
Having trekked for 6 days straight and after attaining an altitude of 3660 meters, it is high time that we stop at this place for a day to acclimatize. It’s even more important because we will be crossing 4000 meters on the coming day.
Day 12: Italian Base Camp to Glacier Base Camp
This day, we are going to cross the 4000 meters mark. The path ahead of us is devoid of any forests and we will continue our trek on the rocky mountains, steep slopes and glaciers. Depending on the time of the year, the trail may be frozen and you may walk across the glaciers. We’ll reach Glacier Base Camp (4210 meters) with about 6 hours of trekking after which we will stay in a tented camp until tomorrow morning.
Day 13: Glacier Base Camp to Dhaulagiri Base Camp
Our trek will continue over the glaciers filled with frozen snow, rubbles and stones. We move forward avoiding crevices and enjoying the landscape until we reach Dhaulagiri Base Camp at an altitude of 4740 meters. It should take about 7 hours to reach the camp. We will set up our tents avoiding strong winds and avalanches.
Day 14: A day at Dhaulagiri Base Camp
The 7-hour trek at an altitude nearing 5000 meters on the previous day would certainly make us tiresome. So we take rest on this day while acclimatizing to the environment before crossing 5000 meters on the next day.
Day 15: Dhaulagiri Base Camp to Hidden Valley crossing French Pass
On this day, we continue our journey and for the first time cross the 5000 meters mark. French Pass at 5360 meters is the highest point you’ll cross in the whole trek. It is also the most difficult part due to the high altitude and knee-deep snow. But the exhilarating view of mount Dhaulagiri on one side and Hidden Valley on the other makes you forget all the trouble. We need to descend to Hidden Valley base camp (5200) for the night. In total, we would have trekked for about 6 hours on this day.
Day 16: Hidden Valley to Yak Kharka crossing Dhampus Pass
Dhampus Pass is another tough part of the trek which you will be crossing this day. At an altitude of 5200 meters, you can enjoy the views of Dhampus peak to the left and Tukuche peak to the right of the pass. After crossing the pass, we plunge into the Kali Gandaki valley and finally descend through a steep path to Yak Kharka at 3680 meters. That’s about 1500 meters of descent which will take more than 6 hours.
Day 17: Yak Kharka to Jomsom
We will have a long descent of about 1000 meters through Marpha Village to Jomsom at an elevation of 2710 meters. Marpha is a small village in Kaligandaki valley. It is famous for apple orchards and apple juice. Jomsom is at a distance of 7.5 km from Marpha. It will take around 3 hours to reach Marpha village and 2 more hours to reach Jomsom.
